CASA CERÁMICA, ABOUT US

Our work:

At Casa Cerámica we try to recreate prehispanic ceramic and sculpture work as close as possible to the original, this is the cultural heretage of all Mexicans and especially those of us who recide in the Mayan Yucatan Peninsula.

Our workshop, study and exhibition of works is to be found at the same location in Muna, Yucatan. The Mayan art creations are directed towards national and international tourism and also museums in different parts of Mexico and in other countries, also for select groups of prehispanic art lovers.

The project, "Casa de la Cerámica workshop" has 7 active members, all are craftsmen / craftswomen and artists, some of which are family members and others that help by providing their creative abilities.

Casa de la Cerámica is run by odrigo Martín Morales, who has lived in Muna all of his life, Muna is a traditional Mayan village in Yucatan.

We have a commitment to our autochthonous predecessors, during our days we concentrate all our attention to the recreation of work related directly to Mayan art. Our activity is a form of restlessness shared by thousands of people who love artistic expression.

For this reason we have directed our attention to the task of investigating techniques, materials, uses and forms that give life to the way Mayan art was produced. Our work goes towards ths rescue of our artistic traditions and technologies applied in recreating an infinity of forms and objects related to ancient art. This leads us to the knowledge and direct handling of materiales and their origins and localizations. The aplication of this knowledge creates figures in various forms, phytomoras, zoomorfic, deities, rituals, cups and bowls for different uses, utensils for daily use, tableware, ornaments, decoration etc.

On the other hand, our diverse activity contemplates modeling and sculpture in lots of materials; stone, mortar, monumental sculpture, friezes, columns, facades etc. Semi precious stones such as Jade serpentine, turquoise and more are also used in which we make masks, jewelery, ornaments and many more.

Raw materials

Our work starts at the beginning with raw materials, collected from the correct geographical location in the Yucatan Peninsula and applied in the correct manner just as our ancestors did.
